Configuring HQ Tax Groups
Overview
Tax Groups enable HQ Sites to apply Tax Rules and Rates to a group of Sites that share the same tax jurisdiction. This enables HQ Sites who work with Master Item easier tax management from the HQ level.
If a Site is part of an HQ but does not use Master Items, HQ Tax Groups are not relevant
Follow the steps below to learn how to configure HQ Tax Groups.
Add the Tax Rate
From the HQ Site go to Menu > Tax Rates
Add the relevant Tax Rate, including its name, type, and the rate itself. Then select Save
The names of the Tax Rates should align with the relevant tax jurisdiction, ex: TX, FL, or CA

Create a Tax Rule
Go to Menu > Tax Rules > select Add Rule + in the top right of the screen
Enter a name for the Tax Rule and attach specific Items or Menus to the Rule. Select Save

Create a Tax Group
Go to Menu > Tax Groups > select + Create Group in the top right of the screen
Enter a name for the Tax Group and select the Sites to add to this group.
Each Site can only be assigned to one Tax GroupSelect the Tax Rules to apply to the Tax Group
Typically all Tax Rules are applied to the selected Tax GroupFinally select the Tax Rates to assign to the Tax Rule within the Tax Group
Select Save
Tax Groups must be published to activate them. Select Exit and then select Publish on the Tax Groups page to complete the process
Now the Tax Group has been added
All Sites working with HQ Tax Groups must still configure the following at the local Site level, using Tax Rates and Rules inherited from the HQ level:
Auto Gratuity: Any Tax Rule needed for Auto Gratuity at the Site level needs to be added at the Site level using a Tax Rule inherited from the HQ level
Fees: Any Tax Rule needed for Fees at the Site level needs to be added at the Site level using a Tax Rule inherited from the HQ level
Third Party Platforms: Any Tax Rate needed at the site level needs to be added at the Site level using a Tax Rate inherited from the HQ level
Local Items: All local Items will be required to have Tax Rules added at the Site level using a Tax Rule inherited from the HQ level
