Taking Gift Card Payments (Pad)

Overview

This guide explains how restaurant staff can accept gift card payments using the PAD (in-restaurant tablet). Follow these steps to ensure a smooth and accurate transaction for guests using either physical or digital gift cards.


Step-by-Step: Accepting Gift Card Payments

  1. Navigate to the Payment Screen

    • Once the guest is ready to pay, go to the Payment screen on the PAD.

  2. Select 'Prepaid' as the Tender Type

    • Tap the Prepaid payment method. This is the option used for all gift card transactions.

  3. Enter or Scan the Gift Card

    • You can enter the gift card information in three ways:

      • Scan QR Code: Tap Scan QR at the bottom of the screen to scan the code from a digital gift card (received by email or SMS).

      • Manual Entry: Tap Keypad at the bottom, enter the card number (and CVV if required), then tap Continue.

      • Swipe Card: Tap Card at the bottom to swipe a physical gift card.

      • Note: Legacy gift cards can only be entered manually.

  4. Add Tip (If Applicable)

    • If the guest wishes to leave a tip, it must be added before processing the gift card payment.

  5. Complete the Payment

    • Tap Pay to process the transaction.

    • If the gift card balance does not cover the full amount, the system will prompt for a split payment, allowing the guest to pay the remainder with another method.


Best Practices & Notes

  • Always confirm the gift card balance before finalizing the transaction if the guest is unsure.

  • Split payments are supported if the gift card does not cover the full bill.

  • Offline Mode: Gift cards cannot be redeemed if the PAD is offline. Wait until connectivity is restored before processing.

  • Legacy Cards: Manual entry is required for older (legacy) gift cards.
